(Update, February 4: We have the Philippine pricing and preorder details of the Vivo V23 5G and Vivo V23e!)

Based on the teaser the company posted, it appears the local launch of the V23 series will center on the Vivo V23 5G — and rightfully so. Not only is it arguably one of the best-looking phones on the market today, it’s also one of the most unique handsets the brand has ever produced design-wise.

The Vivo V23 5G’s headline feature — at least on the Sunshine Gold variant — is its color-charging rear panel that uses flourite AG glass and is unlike anything else.

When exposed to sunlight for a decent amount of time (at least 30 seconds, according to the marketing material), “the Sunshine Gold variant goes from a light ice blue and pink-orange finish to a blue-green gradient look.” It’s not forever, though; eventually, the V23 5G will slowly go back to its original gold color.

A 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 920 5G chipset powers the smartphone’s internals, while a 4,200mAh battery keeps the lights on. The latter allows for fast charging up to 44 watts. In practical terms, Vivo claims the V23 5G can go from 0% to 68% after just 30 minutes plugged in.

In the camera department, the V23 5G features a triple rear-camera system with a 64-megapixel main shooter alongside an 8-megapixel ultra-wide option and a 2-megapixel macro unit. For selfies, there are dual cameras with a 50-megapixel primary image sensor and another 8-megapixel secondary sensor behind an ultra-wide lens. Check out its full specs below.

  • 6.44-inch AMOLED display, FHD+ resolution, 90Hz refresh rate
  • 6nm octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 920 processor with 5G
  • Mali-G68 MC4 GPU
  • 8GB/12GB RAM
  • 128GB/256GB storage
  • Triple 64-megapixel main, 8-megapixel ultra-wide, 2-megapixel macro rear cameras
  • Dual 50-megapixel main, 8-megapixel ultra-wide front cameras
  • Side fingerprint reader
  • 4,200mAh battery with 44-watt USB-C charging
  • Funtouch OS 12 based on Android 11
  • Color option: Sunshine Gold

Curiously, the company makes no mention of the Vivo V23e, which is already being sold in the Philippines with a P14,999 (around $293) price tag.

The V23e is powered by a MediaTek Helio G96 4G chipset, which is built on a 12nm process and features a Mali-G57 MC2 processor. It also packs a 6.44-inch AMOLED screen with a waterdrop notch for the phone’s 50-megapixel — yup, 50-megapixel — selfie camera.

Elsewhere, the V23e packs a 64-megapixel primary camera along with a 4,050mAh battery that supports Vivo’s 44-watt Flash Charge technology. The handset also boots Funtouch 12 based on Android 11 out of the box.
