Tecno Mobile has a new phone sporting a 90Hz LCD screen and the company’s HiOS 7.6 custom skin on top of Android. The Tecno Spark 8C has been officially listed in Nigeria and Thailand, likely indicating that a global launch is imminent.
The latest model in Tecno’s affordable Spark lineup will be available in Magnet Black, Turquoise Cyan, Diamond Grey, and Iris Purple. However, there’s no mention of price at the moment. Based on the specs provided — and the brand’s other handsets — it would be surprising if the Spark 8C doesn’t come with an entry-level price tag.
That’s good news, because the Spark 8C doesn’t look like a bargain-basement model and the inclusion of a 6.6-inch HD+ display with a higher-than-usual refresh rate, a physical fingerprint reader at the back, and a 5,000mAh battery are very much welcome in the segment. It should be noted, though, that the baseline model with 2GB RAM and 64GB storage doesn’t have a 90Hz panel; the 3GB/64GB storage variant does.
The Tecno Spark 8C at a glance
The rear panel, in particular, looks pretty eye-catching with Tecno’s “Stop at Nothing” mantra stamped on its glossy surface, opposite the camera module that houses two cameras and the fingerprint scanner. Talking about the camera island, the main rear shooter is equipped with a 13-megapixel sensor and likely assisted by a 2-megapixel depth sensor. For selfies, the Spark 8C packs an 8-megapixel camera.
Surprisingly, the device also comes with NFC, making pairing with compatible devices and accessories simple. Tecno doesn’t list the CPU of the Spark 8C, which probably rules out a Qualcomm or MediaTek chipset inside, but highlights its proprietary Super Boost and Memory Fusion technologies to allow for a smoother experience overall. The latter is just a fancy name for the phone’s virtual RAM feature.
