Finally, we have new iPhones to talk about, or salivate over until their local release. Apple today announced four upgraded iPhones alongside a revamped Apple Watch Series 7 and the new entry-level Apple iPad and sixth-gen iPad mini, which is essentially an 8-inch iPad Air featuring an A15 Bionic processor that also powers the iPhone 13 lineup.
(Update, September 29: Apple has finally revealed the preorder and availability details for the Philippine market!)
Speaking of which, the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max are now up on Apple’s site in the Philippines, with local pricing starting at P44,990 (around $904 converted) for the smallest unit. Impressively, the improved iPhone 13 family is priced similarly to their predecessors, but comes with 128GB of base storage as opposed to 64GB. The ROM likewise expands up to 512GB for the mini and vanilla model this time around, while the Pro variants get up to 1TB of onboard storage.

Apple iPhone 13 mini and Apple iPhone 13
The iPhone 13 duo arrives with a familiar design, but also sports an interesting diagonal camera layout as well as some notable internal upgrades, with more processing power and longer battery life being the key selling points for customers who care less about photography and more about day-to-day performance and endurance. We still get an IP68-rated metal chassis, except with a 20% smaller notch, while the displays on the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 remain at 5.4 and 6.1 inches diagonally, respectively.
Apple says the Super Retina XDR panels on its latest smartphones will seem brighter, though, even if they offer the same 800 nits of peak outdoor brightness as last year’s models. They support Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG standards as well.
At the back, there’s a pair of 12-megapixel cameras, with the main shooter seemingly packing the same unit found in the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s wide cam that has bigger pixels and can do sensor-shift stabilization, thus allowing better low-light performance and more stable video capture. There’s also Cinematic mode, which takes advantage of the new camera system to automatically shift focus while filming in real time. The 12-megapixel front-facing camera, on the other hand, now supports Apple’s Center Stage feature to follow you around the frame automatically and fit more people into one shot.
On the inside, the new iPhone duo is powered by Apple’s latest — and fastest — A15 Bionic processor with four GPU cores instead of five in their more premium stablemates. And thanks to the A15 chip as well as iOS 15 and the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13’s bigger batteries, the smaller iPhone should last 1.5 hours longer than its predecessor, while the regular model is expected to deliver up to 2.5 hours of extra usage time.

Apple iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max
The Pro variants arrive with fewer cosmetic changes than the iPhone 13 duo, although the upgrades here are more significant, and frankly, more exciting, particularly for users who have been waiting for ages for a handy Apple device with a ProMotion screen.
That’s right. Apple’s latest flagships offer improved OLED panels that can go as low as 10Hz and as high as 120Hz to cleverly match the content being displayed and the speed at which your finger is scrolling on the display. Importantly, that should translate to smoother on-screen animations and more fluid gameplay than we’ve seen on previous iPhones.
Higher refresh isn’t particularly groundbreaking, though; some Android flagships come with 144Hz screens and even faster response times. The new Super Retina XDR panels are supposed to be “25% brighter,” too.
Like the rest of the iPhone refresh, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max boast an A15 Bionic chip, fabbed on a 5nm process and customized to include five GPU cores for faster gaming performance. The battery life has also been improved across the board, with the standard Pro model lasting 1.5 hours longer on a single charge compared to the iPhone 12 Pro. On average, iPhone 13 Pro Max users will get an extra 2.5 hours of usage than its iPhone 12 series equivalent.
For taking pictures and video, Apple stuck with 12 megapixels, but improved the sensors, lenses, and image processing, allowing the Pro duo to capture more light, offer up to 3x optical magnification (up from 2.5x last year), take macro shots, and support Night mode on all three cameras.
The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max bring Cinematic mode and Photographic Styles, which automatically applies a filter to a photo. They now support Apple’s ProRes video codec, which is going to come in handy for those who want to edit their videos later — even right on their iPhones if they prefer.
