At about the same time recently, several of my Facebook friends working at OPPO Philippines updated their profile pictures with a Reno 5 frame, suggesting that the Reno 4‘s successor will be officially launching in the country soon.
(Update, February 11: This 5G phone is mainly for creating videos. Interested in it? Read our OPPO Reno 5 5G review first!)
(Update, January 29: Check out our unboxing of the OPPO Reno 5 5G!)
(Update, January 21: Click on this to find out what OPPO Philippines has confirmed to us!)
(Update: And it’s officially teased!)
The frame shows the model name plus “64MP + 44MP | 50W.” This tells us that the company is releasing here the OPPO Reno 5 4G model that was announced about two weeks ago.
You probably know that there are other Reno 5 series phones out there. The OPPO Reno 5 5G, Reno 5 Pro 5G, and Reno 5 Pro Plus 5G — all 5G-ready devices, as you can tell — were unveiled in China in December. However, only the 4G version has a 44-megapixel selfie camera; the rest have 32-megapixel ones.
A quick search on Facebook reveals that local OPPO salespeople are already accepting preorders for the OPPO Reno 5. You just need to make a P1,000 (roughly $21 converted) down payment to reserve a unit. Early adopters will get a free smartwatch.
The prices we’ve seen are P18,990 ($395) and P19,990 ($416), so we’re not sure which of them is the right one — or if there’s another memory configuration. We’re betting on the first price tag, though.
Because of the details that are already out in the open, we’re pretty sure we’ll be hearing from OPPO Philippines soon. So just hang in there if you’ve been eyeing the Reno 5 since its launch in other countries.
