We’ve seen a lot of high-end phones with impressive camera specs lately, and the Vivo X50 Pro 5G, which is now available for preorder in the Philippines with a suggested retail price of P39,999 (around $824 converted), is the latest to get a local release.
Since its announcement overseas, we’ve been particularly curious about the X50 Pro and its much-hyped gimbal camera system backed by a 48-megapixel Sony sensor. Why, you ask? Watch the video below.
Shot entirely on the Vivo X50 Pro 5G
That video was shot entirely on the Vivo X50 Pro 5G — handheld. Yes. Which means we didn’t use an external gimbal or tripod to stabilize the footage, nor did we incorporate a stabilizer plugin in post. And yet, most of the video looks smooth and professional, even without us moving it to a PC for editing.
Comparing it with the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, which costs almost twice as much, the Vivo X50 Pro 5G handily beats one of the Korean technology giant’s finest in terms of stability and color consistency out of the box. In our running test, the disparity is even larger. The output of the Galaxy S20 Ultra is pretty much unusable for anything other than mandatory social sharing.
This phone definitely passes the eye test, and content creators, particularly vloggers, should consider it if they’re after an extremely pocketable and straightforward rig for shooting videos.

While the X50 Pro doesn’t have a flagship processor to back its computing and gaming performance, with Vivo opting for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, it does have an integrated 5G modem with support for local networks.
In case you didn’t know, 5G is the new wireless internet standard and is around 10 times faster than 4G. In our 5G tests using other devices, we found that Globe’s and Smart’s 5G networks are not only incredibly fast, offering faster-than-fiber download speeds, but very reliable as well. So, yes, it’s a big deal that Vivo’s latest top-shelf offering (at least in the Philippines) is future-proof for the next couple of years.
Other highlights of the Vivo X50 Pro 5G include a 6.56-inch Samsung-sourced, curved AMOLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and fingerprint-sensing capabilities; an 8-megapixel periscope telephoto camera offering 5x optical zoom and up to 60x digital zoom; a 32-megapixel selfie camera; a 4,315mAh battery with 33-watt fast charging; and Android 10-based Funtouch 10.5, which, importantly, behaves more like regular Android now.
Check back in a few days for our full review of the Vivo X50 Pro 5G.
