Remember the OPPO Reno Ace and its Gundam Edition? The ones we had wanted to arrive in the Philippines, but didn’t? It turns out that its successor is apparently going to be the first phone that will be released under a new OPPO series.
(Update, April 13: And it’s official! Read OPPO Ace 2 gaming-focused phone launched.)
According to OPPO vice president and president of global marketing Brian Shen, they will be separating the “Ace” branding from the “Reno,” a year after they introduced the Reno line. And the OPPO Ace 2, launching April 13 in China, is expected to be the initial offering.
Shen said the Reno Ace was a huge success, so they naturally want to focus on it, too. Recall that the unit boasts a 90Hz screen, a battery with support for 65-watt fast charging, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus processor.

Considering that the first Ace is gaming-focused, we expect the new series to compete with Vivo’s IQOO line of devices that’s targeted at mobile gamers.
So what about the OPPO Ace 2? The smartphone has been the subject of leaks lately, so all we really need is a confirmation of some of the unconfirmed specs.
Spotted with a score of 560,217 in Antutu Benchmark, the OPPO Ace 2 is expected to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip, up to 12GB of RAM, and as much as 256GB of expandable storage.
The screen is said to be of the AMOLED kind, measure 6.5 inches, offer full-HD+ resolution, and has a 20:9 aspect ratio. There’s supposed to be a dual-part battery, and one of them is rated at 1,955mAh. It supports 65-watt wired charging and 40-watt wireless charging.
Apparently, the rear-camera system is composed of four sensors — 48 megapixels, 8 megapixels, and two 2 megapixels. The selfie shooter, on the other hand, is supposed to be 16 megapixels. The OPPO Ace 2 is also expected to ship with Android 10-based ColorOS 7 out of the box.
Hopefully, this Ace will become available in the Philippines this time around. Cross your fingers.
