Huawei defies trade ban with 150th PH concept store opening

Huawei continues to defy its troubles with the Trump administration with product launches and store openings. Just today in the Philippines, for example, the company formally opened its 150th experience store in the country.

The branch is located on the 3rd floor of The Podium in Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.

Addressing the customers who lined up early for the opening earlier, Huawei Consumer Business Group head of sales Jeff Dy said that they are “overwhelmed by the support they have received from Huawei users during these trying times.”

We’ve learned from different sources that while local sales dropped in the first week following news of Google revoking Huawei’s Android license, they have significantly picked up in the past couple of weeks.

One executive we spoke with credited it to more people finally knowing what’s fake and what’s not among the stories that have circulated when the issue cropped up. (In case you still have questions, check out this page where Huawei answers U.S. blacklisting-related rumors.)

Another said promotions surely helped. The most recent sale is the ongoing Rainy Season Promotion, which sees price cuts on the Huawei P30, P30 Pro, Mate 20 Pro, and Y6 Pro 2019. Of course, there’s the retailer-initiated offer of a full refund if your device can’t run Google apps and other popular applications from within two years of buying it.

Jason Tan, CEO of Aerophone, the dealer operating the concept store at The Podium, said: “We rally behind Huawei because from the beginning, we share common values of putting our consumers first and making sure that we offer top-notch technologies to make their lives easier.”

What you can find at the Huawei Experience Store at The Podium

Huawei is more than just smartphones and tablets. The company’s local Consumer Business Group has slowly brought in more products from other categories here.

We’re talking about stuff like Huawei-branded laptops, panoramic VR cameras, cases, speakers, smartwatches, earphones, selfie sticks, chargers, power banks, navigation car kits, and smart scales. You can see the price list of some of the gadgets on offer below.

The branch has a service center inside as well, so you can go there to have your Huawei unit serviced — in case you need to — and especially on Service Days for free screen protectors and other services for eligible devices.

To our readers: We’re all for an equal fighting chance for every — and we mean every — manufacturer. A more competitive smartphone industry is a win for us consumers as it pushes companies to give their best and not to slack off.
