A couple of Xiaomi phones will be heavily discounted May 1 at Xiaomi’s Labor Day flash sale on Shopee Philippines. The timing of the sale could mean that the Redmi Y3, or Redmi S3 in some markets, will soon launch in the country as speculated, and thus the need to cut down on inventory.

Included in the flash sale are the Xiaomi Redmi S2 and Redmi 6A, which will drop to P6,049 (roughly $116) and P4,099 ($79), respectively. The Redmi S2 was originally priced at P7,990 ($154), while the base Redmi 6A cost P5,290 ($102) at the time of its announcement. The flash sale runs from 12 a.m. to 1:59 a.m., or until supplies last, we’re told.

Last year, the Redmi S2 debuted as a selfie-focused budget smartphone equipped with a 16-megapixel selfie camera that has HDR and a front-firing LED flash beside it. The rear setup features dual cameras comprised of a 12-megapixel sensor and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The screen is 5.99 inches, with a 1,440 x 720 resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor powers the unit.  

Meanwhile, the Redmi 6A packs a slower but more efficient Helio A22 chip from MediaTek, to go along with a 5.45-inch, 1,440 x 720 display and single rear- and front-facing cameras. The battery inside is rated at 3,000mAh, good enough for a day’s use given the basic specs.

In India, the Redmi Y3 sells for ₹9,999 (P7,458 or $143) for the base model with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The price goes up to ₹11,999 (P8,949 or $172) for the 4GB/64GB memory configuration. The successor to the Redmi S2 (and Redmi Y2) lists a 32-megapixel, f/2.2 selfie camera, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor, and a 4,000mAh battery with 10-watt fast charging as its highlights.
