Did OPPO’s next flagship smartphone, which is yet to be named, recently appear on the Geekbench browser? It sure seems so.
A mystery OPPO phone with the code name Poseidon has been spotted on the popular benchmarking platform, raising speculation it might be the company’s flagship offering in 2019.

In the single- and multi-core benchmarks, the OPPO Poseidon got 3,810 and 10,963 points, respectively. These scores are expected but no less impressive given the top-shelf Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 that supposedly powers the unit in question.
The Snapdragon 855 is Qualcomm’s most powerful chip and should find its way into many upcoming Android flagships. It’s built on a 7nm process and boasts Adreno 640 graphics and eight CPU cores, with one 2.84GHz high-performance core, three 2.42GHz cores, and four power-saving ones operating at 1.8GHz.

The listing also reveals the Poseidon will be using a custom Android skin based on Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, which is a welcome sight and bodes well for those hoping to get their OPPO handset upgraded from Android Oreo-based ColorOS.
As for the code name itself, Poseidon possibly indicates waterproofing to IP67 or IP68 certification, which would be a first for an OPPO phone. It’s too early to tell, but hopefully, the feature will stick around.

OPPO is expected to unveil its 10x optical-zoom technology for mobile devices at an event in China on January 16. Back at Mobile World Congress or MWC 2017, it showed off the first 5x zoom arrangement on a prototype. Will we see the OPPO Poseidon at the event as well? Or is it the same device with a 10x zoom camera? We’re about to find out.
