OPPO is bringing back (remember the ridiculously thin R7?) its upper-midrange R series to the Philippine market. OPPO Philippines today posted a teaser image on social media hinting at the imminent local launch of the OPPO R17 Pro, R17, or both.

The still-unannounced OPPO R15x is also a possibility. Oh, and did we mention that all three phones will get an in-screen fingerprint sensor and flashy gradient backing, which is popular these days?

The caption reads: “Never miss another memorable moment with the OPPO R-Series.” A link to the R-series product page has also been outed, though it doesn’t mention which particular phone will be announced shortly. Regardless, we’re of the belief that choice is always good for consumers.
Speaking of choices, the OPPO R17 Pro is the company’s second-fanciest model after the Find X with sliding cameras. It’s the first OPPO phone with a triple-sensor rear camera, but the concept is different from Huawei’s execution on the P20 Pro.
The OPPO R17 Pro is the company’s first smartphone with a triple-sensor rear camera.
The centerpiece is a 12-megapixel shooter with variable f/1.5 to f/2.4 aperture lens lifted from the Samsung Galaxy S9+ and Galaxy Note 9. The second camera has 20 megapixels and f/2.6 lens, while the third has 3D depth-mapping capabilities. The front-facing camera packs 25 megapixels for tack-sharp selfies.
Another highlight is Super VOOC charging, which OPPO debuted on the Find X Lamborghini Edition and promises a 40-percent charge in 10 minutes using the supplied 50-watt power brick.

There’s also the under-display fingerprint scanner, which sits near the bottom of the 6.4-inch notched OLED screen. Powering the OPPO R17 Pro is Android 8.1 Oreo with the manufacturer’s own overlay on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 processor. It’s got 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card.
The OPPO R17, on the other hand, gets a front panel identical to the R17 Pro’s in footprint and design, with in-screen fingerprint scanning thrown in. Also notably, it’s got one less camera around the back and the performance is driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670. The R17 supports 20-watt fast charging under the regular VOOC standard instead of Super VOOC.
In China, the OPPO R17 Pro is priced at ¥4,299 (around P33,574 or $621), while the toned-down R17 costs ¥3,499 (P27,326 or $505) off contract. Both are already out on the market.

And then there’s the OPPO R15x, which has made its way to a Chinese online retailer, and having done so, gave us a pretty clear picture of what it would look like and more. Its dual rear cameras are lined up in a horizontal array, as opposed to a vertical one on the R17 phones. The notched display is 6.4 inches, and there’s a Snapdragon 660 with 4GB or 6GB RAM under the hood to power the assembly.
