Vivo Z1i could launch outside China to take on Xiaomi, OPPO’s Realme

OPPO’s Realme sub-brand, which was established to compete with the likes of Xiaomi in India’s bargain segment, is gaining momentum as it prepares to launch the Realme 2 Pro in the subcontinent on September 27.

We’ve also heard whispers of Realme launching its devices in the Philippines and other markets outside the country sooner rather than later, to better counter rival products that offer high specs at absurdly low prices.

But what about Vivo’s plans in India and elsewhere? We can’t confirm it yet, but Vivo will reportedly bring one of its Z series smartphones from China to the subcontinent as an online-only offering.

According to a report out of India, Vivo might sell the Vivo Z1i there. We previously wrote about the Z1i back in July, when it officially debuted in China to take on devices such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and the Lenovo Z5.

In case you missed the announcement, the Vivo Z1i is virtually identical to the Vivo Z1 that was launched in June, except it boasts a different selfie camera and a different processor with more base memory. After all, it’s being marketed as a gaming-centric device with an attractive price tag in its native market.

Inside, you get an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset that runs Vivo’s own Android 8.1 Oreo-based interface with the Jovi digital assistant. You also get 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
