The launch event you may have been waiting for finally has a date attached to it. OPPO Philippines today announced that the OPPO F9 (and OPPO F9 Pro?) will be revealed in the country on August 15.

This is according to an event invite sent out by the brand’s local PR representative. Through teaser images and posters both online and offline, we’ve known for a while the Chinese company has been prepping to make its newest midrange phone available at the soonest possible time here.

Official product information isn’t exactly overwhelming at this point. But based on what has been posted on the company’s social-media accounts thus far, the OPPO F9 is expected to debut a “waterdrop screen” on the front. It has a tiny cutout at the top to incorporate the selfie camera and earpiece speaker in a seamless design that has narrow bezels for a 90.8 percent screen-to-body ratio. The execution is reminiscent of the Essential Phone.

Elsewhere, the back of the OPPO F9, which could be made of glass or acrylic (again), is shown to include two cameras — 16 and 2 megapixels — that are laid out horizontally next to the flash module. The fingerprint reader is also on the rear panel, just like on previous F-series handsets, including the OPPO F7 and OPPO F5.

More interestingly, the smartphone may get two different designs for three color options at launch — Twilight Blue, Sunrise Red, and Starry Purple. The first two seem to feature a repeating diamond pattern, while the purple version uses what looks like a glitter-infused gradient surface to stand out.

As for the specs, word has it the OPPO F9 will run on MediaTek Helio P60. OPPO’s proprietary VOOC fast-charging technology will be onboard. That means the device can get enough power for two hours of talk time after just 5 minutes plugged in. It’s a comeback feature in the F series, as the last model to launch with VOOC charging was the OPPO F3 Plus.
