It was only weeks ago that Vivo formally unveiled the almost-bezel-free NEX series in its home country of China. You can’t buy it anywhere else yet, but it has been penciled for a launch event in India on July 19. No date has been set for the Philippine market, which just got the Vivo X21 for P29,999 (roughly $561).

However, if you really want one and patience isn’t one of your virtues, you can purchase the Vivo NEX in the Philippines today from a gray-market importer on Shopee Philippines.

It’s the same unofficial source that has put hard-to-find smartphone imports, such as the Xiaomi Mi 8 and Black Shark gaming phone, in the hands of willing buyers who are okay with not having warranty coverage from the manufacturer if it means getting the device much earlier, weeks or months ahead of schedule.

The Vivo NEX A listed on Shopee is priced at P31,999 ($599), with black as the only color option available. The more expensive Vivo NEX and NEX S that are based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 also appear on the website, though pricing details will follow later.

The unit on offer has a 6.59-inch AMOLED screen that manages to resist the notch trend while pushing the bezels to the fringes. It doesn’t have an in-display fingerprint sensor like the X21, so you’ll have to make do with the physical reader around the back.

The NEX A runs Android 8.1 Oreo on the Snapdragon 710, with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The battery is 4,000mAh and supports fast wired charging. For taking pictures, the phone is fitted with dual cameras at the back, comprised of a 12-megapixel and a secondary 5-megapixel sensor.

Of course, the highlight of the hardware is the retractable selfie camera that is unique to the NEX devices and hides behind the display, within the chassis, when it’s not in use.

It’s probably too early to say when the Vivo NEX will officially arrive at retail in the Philippines, especially because the X21 has only been on shelves since June.
