Good news, Mi fans in the Philippines: The 3GB RAM and 32GB storage version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will be available domestically from June 26. According to the Mi Store Philippines Facebook page, the base unit is hitting the two official Xiaomi retail stores in the country, which are located at SM Megamall and TriNoma.

The price? A very reasonable P10,490, or roughly $197, after taxes. It’s not the cheapest Snapdragon 636-based phone on the local market; the distinction belongs to the P9,995 ($188) ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1. But then again, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better value outside of the two phones we just mentioned.

Besides a powerful octa-core processor that can run most, if not all, of today’s demanding games at medium to high detail settings at native full-HD resolution, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 boasts a 6-inch LCD display with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass layered on top.

It has a dual-lens setup — the 12-megapixel, f/1.9 camera is backed by a 5-megapixel one for portrait shooting — and a 13-megapixel selfie camera on the notch-less bezel at the top. Other key specs include Android 8.0 Oreo and a 4,000mAh battery that easily lasts a day between charges, even with medium to heavy usage.

In our review, we gave the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 our unflinching recommendation and praised the phone’s overall performance and pleasing and sizable display.

However, do keep in mind the unit we tested had 4GB of RAM, not 3GB. But from experience, there’s not a huge difference between the two configurations unless we zero in on their multitasking capabilities, in which having more RAM will mean that you can switch between apps quicker.
