The latest Xiaomi Redmi S2 debuted in the Philippines last week, with the local release date set for June 4. However, we understand that Xiaomi’s best Redmi phone for selfies will actually go on sale earlier than expected — at least offline.
According to Grimalkin, Xiaomi’s official distributor in the country, the date to circle is May 26. The phone will be available in limited quantities at the Authorized Mi Stores at SM Megamall and TriNoma. It will retail at P7,990 (about $152) for 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, as earlier reported.

It’s unclear whether or not the device will be offered online much earlier, but it’s already listed on Xiaomi’s official page on Lazada Philippines.
As with most other Xiaomi offerings, this phone offers serious value for money. The Xiaomi Redmi S2 rocks a 6-inch, 18:9 HD display and capable low-light cameras on the front and back, as well Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 internals tucked within its curved plastic exterior.

The octa-core Snapdragon 625 remains a popular choice among phone makers despite launching two years ago in February 2016, and can be found inside past Xiaomi releases like the Redmi 5 Plus. It’s also rumored to power the Redmi 6A, the successor to the P4,390 ($84) Xiaomi Redmi 5A, which was recently named as the third overall best-selling smartphone in the month of March this year.

For selfies, you get a 16-megapixel camera with larger pixels and LED flash for brighter, sharper snaps in low light. The back-facing camera setup has 12- and 5-megapixel sensors for taking pictures with a clear foreground and blurred background. Xiaomi has also equipped the Redmi S2 with a 3,080mAh battery, possibly enough for a full day’s use. The phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo with the newest MIUI 9.5 user interface skinned on top.
