The OPPO A71 (2018) is one of the company’s most compelling smartphones this year, launching with an attractive price tag in the Philippines last March. And now, just a couple of months after its release, OPPO’s newest budget phone has seen its price slashed.
From P7,990 (roughly $153), the A71 (2018) is now P6,990 ($134). This should be a big help to those who’d rather keep a lid on their spending.

The new price will apply in all concept and authorized retailers nationwide. OPPO made the announcement on social media, where it also revealed that the OPPO F7 with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage has been listed with exclusive freebies on Shopee Philippines.

The OPPO A71 (2018) pairs 2GB RAM and 16GB storage with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor. That’s the exact same silicon found inside the Vivo V7 and V7+. Having said that, we think the Snapdragon 450 is a fantastic chip that delivers performance not seen on many devices at this price point.
The A71 (2018) is also partly billed as a selfie phone for the masses. It flaunts a 5-megapixel, f/2.4 camera with OPPO’s proprietary AI Beauty Recognition Technology; it manages to take selfies that look good on the smartphone’s 5.2-inch screen and on social networks.

On paper, its biggest caveat is that its HD panel isn’t on a par with competing models like the Huawei Y6 2018 and Vivo Y71 that have bigger and taller displays that are better suited for viewing content. Those other phones are built around Qualcomm’s older and slower Snapdragon 425 platform, though.
The Huawei Y6 2018 is priced at P5,990 ($115) locally, while the Vivo Y71 starts at P7,990 ($153) for the 2GB RAM variant and goes up to P8,990 ($172) if you want the higher-specced version with 3GB RAM and a 13-megapixel main camera. Below is a chart showing how all three phones compare to one another.
