We’ve seen a flurry of smartphone launches this early in 2018. Even gaming-focused handsets have joined the party, with the Xiaomi Black Shark and Nubia Red Magic phones being unveiled within a week of each other. Next month, it’s finally OnePlus’ time to reveal its flagship device.
The Chinese manufacturer has announced through its social-media accounts that the OnePlus 6 will be launched on May 16 in London and May 17 in China and India. You can watch the European event’s livestream on the company’s Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube channel at 12 a.m. on May 17 Philippine time.

For the first time since the OnePlus X, the company will use a glass back on its smartphone. This could mean that the OnePlus 6 will support wireless charging.
Co-founder and CEO Pete Lau said that the OnePlus 6’s glass back contains five printed layers of nanotech coating instead of just three, a first in the smartphone industry. “The additional layers give the back of the device a stronger impression of depth,” he added.
The mobile is confirmed to have a (controversial) notch on its 6-inch AMOLED display, with Lau explaining that they “wanted to offer the biggest display possible without compromising on hardware.”

As with most other flagship phones, the OnePlus 6 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. It will reportedly have different memory configurations, 16- and 20-megapixel rear cameras, and Android 8.1 Oreo.
In India, a OnePlus 6 Marvel Avengers Limited Edition will be launched alongside the regular model as an Amazon exclusive. Lucky them. Will Digital Walker, the exclusive distributor of OnePlus products in the Philippines, make the special edition available in the country? Only time will tell.
