It has long been in the rumor mill. But today, the Vivo V9 is finally official in the Philippines.
(Update, March 27: Our Vivo V9 review is up! Read Vivo V9 review: iPhone X-styled, affordably priced.)
The successor to the V7 is the first smartphone with a notch design to be formally launched in the country. Other iPhone X-inspired Android devices are expected to arrive here. This includes the OPPO F7, which will directly compete with the Vivo V9 starting April 2018.
The cutout at the top center of the 6.3-inch, FullHD+ screen houses sensors. One of them is the 24-megapixel, wide-angle front camera that’s loaded with artificial intelligence- and augmented reality-features such as face unlock, gender detection, AR stickers, and face beauty.
The back of the Vivo V9 holds the fingerprint sensor if you prefer to use your finger instead of your face as a security measure. There’s also a vertically arranged dual-camera setup, where a 16-megapixel sensor is paired with a 5-megapixel one to give the handset the ability to take photos with bokeh effect.

At the center of it all is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable memory. A 3,260mAh battery keeps the mobile’s lights on. Priced at P17,990 (roughly $344), the Vivo V9 will ship with Android 8.1 Oreo-based Funtouch OS 4.0 starting April 13. And the company will accept preorders for the device from March 26 to April 5.
Expect our review of the smartphone to be up soon. Till then.
