Samsung has thrown another Galaxy (or two) into the ring to compete with other premium smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ were officially unveiled on February 26 in Barcelona, Spain, and are currently up for preorder in the Philippines.
The handsets look almost the same as the Galaxy S8 and S8+; if you didn’t know any better, you’d mistake one for its predecessor. But inside are significant changes, particularly in the camera system. It’s reimagined — as the Korean tech giant calls it — to capture super-slow-motion videos at 960 frames per second, show you animated emoji, and take photos even with limited light, thanks to a variable aperture that will let you switch from f/2.4 to f/1.5, the lowest ever in a phone. But while the regular S9 comes with only one sensor at the back, the pricier Plus variant gets two, just like the most expensive model in the iPhone lineup. If the two 12-megapixel rear cameras and the 8-megapixel front shooter are what Samsung make them out to be, can they outdo the ones found on the Apple iPhone X? Can they capture more Instagram-worthy pictures, especially when lighting is not ideal?
