Is Huawei really bringing a company first to at least one of the Huawei P20 (or P11, as some would call it) series smartphones?
(Update, February 5: This post has been edited to show that three rear cameras on a smartphone should be a first for Huawei.)
Case renders have popped up online, showing a cutout — positioned not unlike that of the Apple iPhone X — that is meant for a triple-rear-camera setup.
The most recent leak gives credence to VentureBeat reporter Evan Blass’ tweet in December 2017.
Is the next Huawei P-series going to be an imaging powerhouse? A digital artist at one of the company’s creative agencies added these “PCE Series” ads to their portfolio — claiming 40MP, 3 lens rear (5x hybrid zoom) + 24MP selfie, all Leica-co-developed. pic.twitter.com/t8w3VlL55L

Allegedly, one of the upcoming Huawei P20 handsets could have three cameras on the back, one of which boasts a 5X hybrid zoom. The trio will supposedly bring the total resolution to 40 megapixels.
Up front is a 24-megapixel selfie shooter. And all of the four cameras are said to be Leica co-developed, just like those of Huawei’s previous flagship smartphones.

Not that we’d be surprised if that last bit turns out to be true. After all, the Chinese tech giant in 2016 announced a long-term partnership with the German manufacturer. This was solidified by a plan to put up a research and innovation center at Leica’s headquarters in its home country.

The P20 series — likely composed of the Huawei P20, P20 Plus, and P20 Lite — is expected to debut in Paris, France, on March 27. So the wait for confirmation of this leak’s authenticity should not be that long.
