This early, we’re already seeing a lot of ASUS ZenFone 5 series-related leaks. Not surprising because the Taiwanese manufacturer is expected to launch the lineup at MWC 2018 in Barcelona, Spain, end of this month.
Alleged ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 5 Lite images already surfaced online. And just recently, an ASUS device turned up on Antutu. The phone bearing the model number Z01RD was benchmarked and got a score of 238,129. It is lower than the reported Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S 270,461 rating, but the result is still high.

The ASUS Z01RD, seen here on Antutu Benchmark, could be the ZenFone 5 Pro.
While other outfits are saying that the smartphone in question is either the ZenFone 5 or the ZenFone 5 Lite, we’re thinking this could be the base variant of the ASUS ZenFone 5 Pro, the most premium in the lineup.
Consider: The ZenFone 5 was reported to have the model number X00PD. Even if that turns out to be false, the newly leaked ASUS Z01RD has the makings of a flagship handset. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. It has 6GB of RAM and runs Android Oreo.
Last year, the company’s highest-end phone was the ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro. Though in 2016, the Pro’s equivalent was the ZenFone 3 Deluxe. So in case ASUS goes back to the Deluxe naming convention or adopts a new one, then the Z01RD should be the ZenFone 5 Pro.

Anyhow, the benchmark also shows that the device features a screen with a 2,246 x 1,080 resolution. That translates to an aspect ratio wider than 18.5:9, which suggests that the display has a notch a la the Apple iPhone X. Does that mean that the live photo posted by Twitter user Bernardo da Silva is the Z01RD? We’ll find out soon enough.
