At least two weeks before their expected launch at the Consumer Electronics Show or CES 2018 in Las Vegas, the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) showed up in a hands-on video published on YouTube.
(Update, December 20, 2017: These midrange smartphones are official! Read our article: Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) are official.)
As expected, the video was taken down — but not before a Slashleaks contributor was able to download then re-upload it, but to Google Drive this time. Watch.
Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) preview video
This is clearly your best look at the Samsung Galaxy S8 lookalikes yet. The marketing stunt leak is in line with the Galaxy A8 and A8+ user manual that the Korean manufacturer itself uploaded to its online database.
The video is in Khmer, the official language of Cambodia; however, you can catch English words there to describe the smartphones’ features.

Among the interesting specs shown are the devices’ 5.5- and 6-inch Super AMOLED Infinity displays with FullHD+ resolution; a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom; a speaker at the right side of the handsets; and a fingerprint sensor that is placed in a more accessible position than those of the Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and Galaxy Note 8.
But for us, the highlight here is the two-front-camera setup (16 megapixels, f/1.9 + 8 megapixels f/1.9) with Live Focus for selfies, which make the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) the company’s first phones to sport the feature popularized by Vivo with the Vivo V5 Plus. You can unlock the Galaxy units using your face via the system.
The highlights are face unlock and the two front cameras (16 megapixels, f/1.9 + 8 megapixels f/1.9) with Live Focus for selfies, which make the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) the company’s first phones to have the feature.
The back, on the other hand, packs a 16-megapixel f/1.7 camera. Underneath is an Exynos 7885 octa-core processor paired with 6GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, which can be expanded using a microSD card. The smaller variant uses a 3,000mAh battery, while the A8+ has a 3,500mAh cell.
You’ll still get IP68 certification and the same metal frames and glass panels used in the Samsung Galaxy A series (2017).
Below are images grabbed from the hands-on video, in case you just feel like looking at photos.
