THE Huawei Y7 Prime, the company’s Snapdragon-based bargain phone, has been teased in the Philippines for weeks now. And after landing in neighboring countries like Hong Kong and Vietnam earlier this year, it has finally made its way to local stores.

Off contract, the Y7 Prime is officially priced at P9,990, which translates to roughly $195, but it is also available on Globe Telecom’s Plan 999 postpaid offer without any upfront payment.

The latter gets you a data allowance of 3.5GB monthly, plus 50 minutes of calls and 50 text messages. It also comes with a 6-month subscription to local Netflix. The lock-in period is 24 months.

The phone itself is encased in a stylish metallic shell, with a fingerprint reader plastered onto the back of the unit. Above the sensor is a 12-megapixel camera capable of shooting full-resolution video, whereas the front-facer uses an 8-megapixel sensor.

On the front, you get a 720p LCD display measuring 5.5 inches. The processor of choice is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor tethered to 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage, while a 4,000mAh battery powers the assembly. And as with all of the company’s recent releases, the Huawei Y7 Prime ships with a custom Android Nougat-based user interface.

The Huawei Y7 Prime has pretty good specs for the price, though you can get a better display for the same or less money. If the price is right up your alley, do consider the OPPO A71 and ASUS ZenFone 4 Max as well.

These are pretty good specs for the price, though you can certainly get a better display for the same or less money. If the price is right up your alley, do consider the OPPO A71 and ASUS ZenFone 4 Max as well — both of which we reviewed fairly recently.
