Smart Postpaid to offer Huawei Nova 2i 18:9, quad-camera phone

Huawei Philippines’ current star might just become brighter with the company’s partnership with Smart Communications. The telco will be offering the Huawei Nova 2i, and we all know that a telco’s push can go a long way in increasing the likelihood of a device’s commercial success.

Smart is advertising Plan 799 for the Nova 2i. That already comes with free 8GB of data, 40 minutes of calls and unlimited text messages to all networks, and access to Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Viber. Pay P500 (around $10) a month for the smartphone on top of the P799 ($16) monthly service fee, and you should be shelling out P1,299 ($25) per month for 30 months.

But it seems that the Huawei Nova 2i will also be available on Plan 399, as Smart’s reply to a follower’s comment in the Instagram post above reveals. The package includes free 3GB of data, 20 minutes all-net calls, unlimited all-net texts, and Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Viber access. The total monthly fee should be P899 ($17).

This goes without saying that the newly launched phone will likewise be offered on Plan 599, which comes with free 5GB of data, 30 minutes of calls and unlimited text messages to all networks, and access to Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Viber. Total monthly fee should reach P1,099 ($21).

We asked Globe Telecom if they will be offering Huawei Nova 2i, too, but we only got this reply: “Thank you for reaching us. Huawei Nova 2i is not yet available on our postpaid plan. But we offer Huawei Y5 2017, Huawei T2 7, Huawei Y3 2017 and Huawei T3 7, Huawei Y7 Prime LTE and P9 For ThePlan.”

The Nova 2i is Huawei’s 18:9 phone with four cameras — 13 and 2 megapixels on the front and 16 and 2 megapixels round the back. It is powered by the company’s own octa-core Kirin 659 chip paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, features a 3,340mAh battery, and runs EMUI 5.1 on top of Android Nougat. All these for a suggested retail price of only P14,990 or $292.
