Not too long ago, the top smartphone brand in the Philippines (according to the latest IDC numbers) wrapped up the fifth episode of its Facebook Live show; it’s the one that starred actress Kim Chiu as a guest host.
Third segment of The Cherry Mobile Show‘s fifth episode. The unnamed selfie phone was seen at the last part of the Facebook livestream.
At one point during the program, the TV mainstay whipped up a mystery Cherry Mobile phone and snapped a quick selfie using the product in question. The unnamed handset had a big front-facing camera above the display, at the center of the bezel.
A single main camera and a fingerprint reader were featured at the back of the device, one above the other. Based on the footage, we’d say the unit has either a 5- or 5.2-inch display.

So are we looking at the Cherry Mobile Selfie successor? The first — a 4.7-incher that was priced at P9,999 (around $195) at launch — has a 13-megapixel front camera paired with another 13-megapixel camera with a Sony lens and a dual-LED flash on the back.

Cherry Mobile Selfie 2 perhaps? Or Selfie 3, if the company were to follow in the footsteps of OPPO and Vivo, which use odd numbers for their phones’ names. Or it could be another Cherry Mobile phone with another moniker. Your guess is as good as ours.

In any case, the more important thing to note here is that Cherry Mobile is setting itself up for renewed competition with OPPO, Vivo, and more recently, ASUS. Of course, the next question is: Is Cherry Mobile’s upcoming entry engineered to win the selfie war? Hopefully, we don’t have to wait too long to find out.
