THE month of May was not particularly good to Apple, as the iPhone 7 Plus finally got dislodged from the top spot of benchmarking app Antutu’s list of best-performing smartphones. Was June any worse?

Unfortunately for Tim Cook and company, it was. Based on Antutu’s recent report, the iDevice slipped further down the ranking; from second place, it dropped to sixth place. Even the smaller iPhone 7 fell from the sixth spot to ninth place.

The list also revealed a new top performer. May’s best and fastest, the HTC U11, may have the highest-rated camera on camera-benchmarking outfit DxOMark, but on Antutu, it did not rule the roost in June anymore. The crown already belonged to the OnePlus 5, which was launched just less than a month ago.

The OnePlus 5 beat all the other smartphones on Antutu in June.

The new champ is OnePlus’ fastest-selling device ever, according to co-founder Carl Pei. It boasts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip; an Adreno 540 GPU; as much as 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage; a user interface based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat from the get-go; and 16- and 20-megapixel cameras on the back. This without really going over $539 (P27,050), which is the more expensive variant’s price.

HTC’s squeezable phone settled for second place, followed by the two Samsung Galaxy S8 variants powered by Exynos 8895 and the Xiaomi Mi 6, which we talked about in the first episode of #RevuLive.

The full list of best-performing smartphones on Antutu can be found below.

The top performers on Antutu in June. Will we see a different ranking in July? We’ll find out soon enough.

Of course, benchmarking apps like Antutu do not necessarily reflect real-world performance, so we suggest that you take this ranking as no more than a performance indicator.
