With the Mobile World Congress in February fast approaching, the leaks and rumor mill are once again alive and well for some of the hardware that will be shown off during the biggest event for phone makers.
Most recently, images sent by a tipster to Droid Life of what is said to be the LG G5 have surfaced online, and although the unit in question is encased in a dummy cover, a lot can be learned from the alleged photos.
For instance, the LG G5 might have a curved metal enclosure, as earlier reports suggested, and dual rear-facing cameras, one of which will likely take care of depth perception for improved focusing, as well as allow the user to refocus shots and alter perspective after the fact.
That’s interesting to note simply because previous iterations of LG’s Android flagship benefited from a laser autofocus sensor to snap images faster and differentiate between objects in the foreground and background. It seems that this year, LG aims to convince people that two rear cameras are indeed better than one.
The LG G5 might have dual rear-facing cameras, one of which will likely take care of depth perception.
I’ve played around with phones like the Starmobile Knight Spectra that had twin cameras poking from the rear, and based on first impressions, it’s hard to say that the extra camera module makes a huge difference.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see how well the G5 makes use of the hardware, if at all. Judging from the leaked photos, a USB Type-C port and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor might also be on the cards. As for the other specifications, the metal-clad G5 will reportedly sport dual displays, just like the V10, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip with at least 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.
The LG G5 is expected to make its debut on February 21, a day before the Mobile World Congress 2016 kicks off in Barcelona.
