Heads up, Android fans: Meizu’s newest affordable flagship phone, the MX5, has been spotted on Lazada Philippines’ website for P16,999, which is quite reasonable given its launch price of 1,799 yuan (roughly P13,000) in China.
Announced in Beijing last month, the MX5 aims to compete with the likes of the Apple iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S6, and LG G4, with uncompromising performance and quality that are hard to come by in the mid-priced segment. The Android Lollipop phone features a 7.6mm-thick, brushed-finish metal body reminiscent of the iPhone 6 and a fingerprint sensor that doubles as a physical home button.
The phone’s 5.5-inch AMOLED display delivers a resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. Inside, you’re getting MediaTek’s latest MT6795 processor, which is clocked at 2.2GHz and is equipped with eight CPU cores, 3GB of RAM, and up to 64GB of non-expandable storage. The unit sold by Lazada’s reseller maxes out at 16GB, so this is something to keep in mind moving forward.

The other possible point of contention is the absence of warranty protection from the importer. This is a smartphone we’re talking about here, so do proceed with caution. As for the rest of the key specs, the MX5 is fitted with 20- and 5-megapixel rear and front cameras and a 3,150mAh non-removable battery.
